Photos from Brooklyn Zine Fest 2013

The second year of our annual expo of self-published magazines was huge, surpassed only by BZF 2014 (see "About the Zine" for photos from that event).  Many thanks to photographer Steve McFarland for these photos.

See videos from our Bad Movie Night featuring Steve Guttenberg in Don't Tell Her It's Me

Picture
For our fifth sold-out bad movie celebration with The Flop House, on February 1st, 2013 at 92YTribeca in New York, we chose a movie that we'd actually discovered via a VHS tape we found on the curb.  (Fun fact: we've since had that VHS box signed by Guttenberg himself!)

Check out Kseniya's slideshow on other manly makeovers in cinema history, and flopper Elliott Kalan's discussion of whether or not Guttenberg's bald-headed, fat-suit look qualifies this movie as a Ziggy adaptation.  See more videos from past events at our YouTube channel.

Our Podcast Appearances (Click titles to listen)

Read it and Weep - Once Bitten
For our third appearance on one of our favorite podcasts, we talk about young Jim Carrey in Once Bitten, warding off a MILFy vampire while also trying to sleep with his high school girlfriend.  It's a fun, weird gem!

Bonnie & Maude - Women in Space
Matt makes a guest appearance on Kseniya's film podcast (along with her co-host and ILBM contributor Eleanor) to talk about movies featuring women in space, including Gravity, Alien, and our issue 3 cover movie Barbarella.

Read it and Weep - Death Bed: The Bed That Eats

Our second appearance on this excellent podcast about bad books, movies, and TV.  Death Bed is an extremely crappy "lost" horror film from the 1970s that was recently, but should never have been, rediscovered.  We have a great time talking about it, though.

Bad Movies and the Brooklyn Zine Fest: Talking with Eleanor Kagan
Back again with The Hoot! host Eleanor Kagan, Matt & Kseniya talk about the brand-new I Love Bad Movies #5 (theme: Before and After They Were Famous), as well as the many great writers and illustrators who would be exhibiting at the then-upcoming Brooklyn Zine Fest 2012.
Bonus: Eleanor gives us another Bad Movie Audio Quiz at the end of our bit.

Read it and Weep - Highlander II: The Quickening
We watched the crappy Highlander sequel, and then we had to give it two compliments (with many insults in between).

Terrible Jaws-themed video games at our Bad Movie Night screening of Jaws: The Revenge

Picture
In case you missed our most recent Bad Movie Night screening (or just want to relive the magic), here's co-host Stuart Wellington of bad-movie podcast The Flop House giving his first slide show presentation in history to a crowd of 175 people.

Stuart took the crowd through the long history of Jaws-themed video games, including the Nintendo game called Jaws that had nothing to do with the original film by that title, but was actually a game version of the movie Jaws: The Revenge a.k.a. Jaws 4. Confused? Don't be. But also, don't play any of these awful-looking games.

Performed on Saturday, June 8th 2013 at 92YTribeca in New York.
